From the beginning of the 90s, banquete_ (the Spanish word for feast, banquet) has held forth as an international dialogue and action network for artists, scientists, technologists and other knowledge producers. Its aim is to explore the convergences among biological, social, technological, artistic and cultural systems, and to investigate with a systemic, cross-disciplinary approach that questions a prevailing model of thinking—anthropocentric, linear and dichotomous—whose political, social, economic, cultural and ecological consequences call for a change of sensibility, focus and behaviour.
The banquete_ project has brought together anthropologists, artists, architects, biologists, philosophers, economists, neuroscientists and sociologists in the aim of reflecting on the patterns and processes of transformation that govern the tangible and intangible flows of matter, energy and information. Over time, this network has given consistency and a consolidated structure to a collaborative environment composed of various centres of research and artistic and scientific production and dissemination. The common motivator has been to foster interaction between the sciences and the humanities, and between these fields and society. In this innovative context, banquete_nodes and networks has put forward more than thirty digital art projects that analyse this transformative process, from neural microworlds to the global dynamics of digital connection in our contemporary societies.
