A visual historical testimony of the armed conflict and resilience in Guatemala

This book documents over three decades of the Guatemalan Indigenous people’s struggle to survive violence, repression, and forced displacement. Through Jonathan Moller’s photographs, essays, and testimonies, the work sheds light on life in the Communities of Population in Resistance, the return of refugees, and the exhumation processes that uncovered the traces of the internal armed confl ict. Resist to Live honors the dignity, strength, and perseverance of those who, in the face of fear and marginalization, held on to the hope of a more just future.

Since 1991, Moller has worked in Central America (mainly Guatemala), as well as in Peru and Cuba. With Turner, he has published Nuestra cultura es nuestra resistencia (Our Culture is Our Resistance, 2004), Paisajes ausentes (Absent Landscapes, 2017), Cuba joven (Young Cuba, 2018), Black Lives Matter. Visualizando 2020 (Black Lives Matter. Visualising 2020, 2021) and En tránsito. En compañía de extraños (In Transit: In the Company of Strangers, 2024).

Jonathan Moller will donate the proceeds from the sale of the book to the Centre for Legal Action on Human Rights and the Casa de la Memoria. English edition available.
